Ayawaso Central Rolls Out NDC’s Free Sanitary Pad Initiative to Empower Young Girls

 By GhanaianVoicesTV Newsroom

Accra, Ghana July 1, 2025

In a significant step toward promoting menstrual hygiene and female empowerment, Ayawaso Central Municipality has successfully received and commenced distribution of sanitary pads under the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s flagship Free Sanitary Pad Initiative.

The exercise was spearheaded by the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Rudolph Collingwood William, in close collaboration with the dynamic Member of Parliament for Ayawaso Central, Hon. Abdul-Rauf Tubazu. The distribution, which targets schoolgirls across various basic and junior high schools in the municipality, is part of the NDC’s nationwide commitment to ensuring that no girl is left behind due to menstrual challenges.

The initiative, beyond providing essential sanitary products, seeks to break the silence around menstruation, boost the confidence of young female students, and eliminate absenteeism related to menstrual stigma and lack of hygiene products. This is expected to translate into improved academic performance and stronger participation of girls in extracurricular activities and leadership opportunities in schools.

Speaking at one of the distribution centers, Hon. Abdul-Rauf Tubazu emphasized the importance of investing in girls’ health and education. “This is not just a donation, it’s a declaration that every girl in Ayawaso Central matters. We are creating an environment where our daughters can thrive without shame or interruption to their dreams,” he noted.

The gesture has been met with widespread appreciation from parents, teachers, and community leaders, who praised the MP for his tireless dedication to youth welfare and gender-sensitive interventions.

GhanaianVoicesTV commends Hon. Abdul-Rauf Tubazu for his proactive leadership and unwavering commitment to his constituents, particularly in championing the needs of young girls. His work continues to reflect a new era of responsive and inclusive governance in Ayawaso Central.
